Our Farmers

 

SOUTHERN OAKS FARM

Randy and Karen Melvin of Southern Oaks Farm, located in Springville, Alabama, provide Urban Cookhouse with a variety of local produce. They grow the delicious red leaf and romaine lettuces in our salads, as well as broccoli, bell peppers, jalapenos and cucumbers. They also provide the cantaloupe and watermelon found in our fresh fruit and supplied 500 gallons of strawberries for our Housemade Strawberry Lemonade. Randy and Karen retired from running a large fiber optics company and traded in the business life for the simple life of farming. They are active in their community church, Remlap First Baptist Church, and have been providing local produce for UC for more than 5 years. Southern Oaks Farm supplies produce to our Homewood, Summit, Downtown Birmingham and Tuscaloosa locations.

 

GRAVEL RIDGE FARM

Daniel Wright and Dustin Smith of Gravel Ridge Farm, located in Cullman, Alabama provide the free range local eggs for several items on our menu, such as the Hot Cheddar Pasta. Local Mix Salad and Wrap and our delicious Brown Sugar Brownies. Daniel and Dustin started raising chickens and farming as a hobby and now provide each UC location with over 30 dozen local eggs per week. Gravel Ridge Farm supplies eggs to our Homewood, Summit, Downtown Birmingham and Tuscaloosa locations.

 

SMITHERMAN FARM

Josh and Shannon Smitherman of Smitherman Farm in Clanton, Alabama provide cherry tomatoes, squash, zucchini and corn to Urban Cookhouse. You can find their produce in our salads, soups and roasted vegetables. Josh has been farming since 5th grade and loves providing for his family in this way. He has sold his main crop – peaches – at the Urban Cookhouse Farmers Market for the past 6 years. Smitherman Farm supplies produce to our Homewood, Summit and Downtown Birmingham locations.

 

HARVEST FARM

Trent Boyd of Harvest Farm, located in Cullman, Alabama, provides the strawberries for our delicious Housemade Strawberry Lemonade. He provides 1,500 gallons of strawberries every spring that Urban Cookhouse purees and freezes in order to provide local strawberries in our lemonade year-round. Trent and his family grow over 40 vegetables and 8 fruits on their farm, and provide Urban Cookhouse with delicious local strawberries, blackberries, cauliflower and broccoli. Harvest Farm supplies produce to our Homewood, Summit, Downtown Birmingham and Tuscaloosa locations.

 

MILLIE RAYS

All it took was one taste of the delicious Millie Rays Orange Rolls to know that they would be the perfect complement to Urban Cookhouse salads and Fork & Knife plates. Urban Cookhouse was Millie Rays very first customer. Millie Rays supplies rolls to all UC locations.

 

HAMM FARM

Dwight Hamm, and his son Chris Hamm, operate Hamm Farm in Cullman, Alabama. Dwight has been farming for over 17 years and grows the delicious tomatoes, eggplant and bell peppers found in our salads, soups and roasted vegetables. You can spot Dwight on HWY 65 between Birmingham and Cullman in his iconic blue Toyota Tacoma. Hamm Farm supplies produce to our Homewood, Summit and Downtown Birmingham locations.
